Following Gena Rowlands' passing at the age of 94, her son Nick Cassavetes pays heartfelt tributes to her fans: "Gina, take it easy."

 

Nick Cassavetes, Gena Rowlands's son, is paying tribute to his mother after she passed away at the age of 94.

According to Cassavetes' agency, Rowlands passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at her California home, with her family by her side. She was famous for her appearances in A Woman Under the Influence and The Notebook. The news was initially reported by TMZ.

After his mother passed away, director Cassavetes paid tribute to her in a series of touching Instagram Stories reposts.

A photo of Rowlands from the film Gloria was attached to the initial post, which said, "This picture has graced the walls of every office I've ever had!" We have lost a remarkable, powerful, and gifted woman. Gena Rowlands, you can relax.

Rowlands and her late filmmaker husband John Cassavetes—Nick's father—were photographed in black and white for their film Opening Night, as featured in a second post by the identical fan.

In 1989, at the age of 59, John passed away due to consequences from cirrhosis; he and Rowlands had a son named Nick and two daughters, Alexandra and Zoe.

 

"Yet another legendary squad reunited! A caption reading "RIP Gena Rowlands" accompanied the shared post.

Ten of Rowlands's films, including Gloria, Opening Night, A Woman Under the Influence, Minnie, and Moskowitz, were co-written by John.

In 1974 for A Woman Under the Influence and again in 1980 for Gloria, Rowlands was nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards.

Robert Forrest, a retired businessman, was Rowlands' second husband in 2012.

  A black-and-white photo of Rowlands from her youth was shared by producer Dajana Gudic, with whom ick collaborated on the 2023 film Impulse. Gudic also uploaded a Story from Gudic.
The way she brought up her son, my great friend @paul smenus, says it all about her, even if I never got to meet her. "May your soul rest in peace, Gena Rowlands," Gudic wrote, captioning the post with a string of white heart emojis.

A diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease was made five years ago, according to Nick, who revealed the news to Entertainment Weekly in June.
Nick directed his mother in her breakout role as an older Allie in the 2004 film The Notebook, which the two collaborated on.
